Apollo Bay...
or 'A Polar Bear' as I called it as a little kid. We had stopped overnight on the side of the road in the caravan. All the chatter seemed to be about some polar bear, which I presumed was lurking outside.
Anyway, this time I'm travelling with the boys and my niece to continue the hunt for vintage stuff and just hang by the beach. There will possibly be an entire day spent in my pjs!

Back to Bali
Went back to Bali for a yoga retreat with the lovely Lucy and Edo&Jo. The chanting added a new blissful dimension to the week. Hopefully have left behind a whole lot of junk that was encrusting the soul. Discovered that there is a nasty little planet in my house of relationships which would explain ALOT of things. Things I learnt was to travel more; have more fun and joy; and push myself into the limelight. (still can't handle ignorant suburbanites- more learning)

Castlemaine
there's so many secondhand/antique stores in the area I decided to stay overnight with the boys in Castlemaine. Found some art deco props for the 'temple'. very excited to get started

Daytripper, Yeah!
Had couple of day trips to relieve the winter blues. Checked out some art in Sydney- Anne Landa Awards and Artspace. Of course, this was followed by cocktails and lunch at China Doll. Great day of art and cuisine. Finally managed to inspire a starting point for my next project 'Temple of the Erotic Clown Goddess'.
The next trip was with my niece to Hobart to see MONA. What an extravaganza of art!!! Fantastic! and convinced me that i'm on the right track with the Temple. I have a whole new set of art heroes and feel that the winter blues are dissipating. Maybe the winter blues= the uncertainty and confusion of what to do next? maybe

Bali Yoga Retreat

Fantastic experience. Five hours of yoga a day, walks through the countryside to the beach, seafood on the beach, leisurely brunches and interesting people. Great escape from Melbourne's winter and mind numbing suburbia. Oh, and did I mention the monkeys joining morning meditation and froggies in the dunny? Bliss..

Bright!
well, there was no snow just a bit chilly. No inspiration for the next art project either....discovered that hanging out in secondhand stores really isn't my thing. Hillbillies and hybrid polka musak is just too much of a time warp. Have been inspired, though, to explore regional areas closer to home. Maybe some hiking and cycling. The rail trail looks great! and relatively easy going- nothing too steep.

Bright
Decided to take the boys on a holiday. They so deserve it! We're off to Bright to look for props for the next art project. Wasn't expecting it to snow so early in the year! Will have to buy some extra warm winter woollies. Luckily the boys already have hoodies and their polo neck sweaters.

New Adventure
Been busy booking the new adventure to Bali. First trip ever to Bali- how unAustralian! Looking forward to a yoga retreat and just a little bit of luxury. Funny, though, the boys accommodation is the hardest to organize. But they have their usual and favorite luxury room in the Fluffy House! Looking forward to it!

Snowdome = Crystal Ball
Art is so funny. This could all be heading in a different direction now that people think the snowdome is a crystal ball. Which makes sense considering my interest in the near future!

Winter, 2010
Rose and the boys will need to go somewhere warm this winter. Even just for a week. Perhaps a road trip. No more wishing and dreaming. Live the life

What's happened so far....
Souvenirs can represent the fantasy of elsewhere. An elsewhere that always seems far-off, strange, exotic and wonderful. This ‘snowdome’, a bricolage of travel mementoes, is a compact cultural capsule inspired by the contemporary tourist theme park where there is no dead space, no wasted time. A fictional world that is a non-stop journey of novelty, difference and photo opportunities.
Inspired by a recent online residency, “Transit Lounge ’09” (www.transitlounge.org/2009) dealing with the theme of travel, I rediscovered forgotten photos of past travels. These have been remixed and merged into a souvenir of the ideal tourist construct that is digitized and trinketized. It’s a trophy and status symbol of my experience and past. It examines a longing to be somewhere else and questions the representation of culture as entertainment in the tourist space.

Souvenirs
Souvenirs signify our identity, experience and past. These objects and their story form an environment in the home that is a construct of our identity. A construct that is authentic as the staged performance of culture in the tourist space.

Afghan Bazaar
Went on an Afghan trip. Flying carpets, canned eggplant dip, beaded frocks, henna hands, beautiful plastic crockery and yummy treats. Very enjoyable. And the sour cherry juice goes very nicely with vodka.

Real Travel
It's time to travel for real. This time to Vietnam. It has been organized over the internet so it will be interesting to see whether our travel agent, Ha, actually exists. Someone took my money so someone, somewhere exists! right? Oh well, i need an adventure to have something to talk about.

Voyage Around Home
In a post-jet age world, we are left with a longing for other places- the exotic. Our only choice of travel, though, is a tour at home amongst the memorabilia of past voyages or places we have only seen online. It's a home full of souvenirs that represent the fantasy of elsewhere.

A Taste of Asia
To cope with the end of travel, we're organizing an excursion to Springvale to satisfy the urge for the exotic. Can't wait for the sounds, smells, sights and the souvenirs.....especially the wall-to-wall waving kitty kats! Hope to attach video soon.

Post-Jet Age
Apparently the end of travel is nigh. Why wasn't I told? Was anyone told? Why don't they tell us these things? Well, now we have to seek local exoticism. Not the same really.

Off to Electrofringe in Newcastle for some electro-dreaming. It will be all sensors, interactions, software and electro-illusions. Hope to be inspired by all the moving bits!

In the meantime
While I dream of caviar in St Petersburg, a quick trip to the Sydney Biennale is afoot. I'm teaching the boys how to cook their own dinner. Yes, it's home alone for the boys, but they're clever lads. They're flipping burgers as I type!

Launching Pad
My Boats

There's no taxi rank at the airport, just a marina. Arrived about midnight and spirited away into the dark on a speed boat. Very cool. Cooler is the cruiser we were on for the sunset cruise....yes, less said about that the better. Less, but still cool is the dive boat. Well, didn't they all laugh when I expressed concern about the approaching storm. Apparently, you just keep on snorkelling in the monsoonal rain. You don't, however, eat your lunch in the rain. They move me inside quick sticks then. I guess soggy prawns and diluted champers isn't so cool.

Picture this II.......
Me, skinny dipping in 'my very own' plunge pool. Pity the poor passing fishermen....the stories about Moby Dick ARE true!
The World's ONLY.....
underwater spa shakes a little during the monsoonal rain storms. Time to make a discreet exit.

I'm addicted to...
American Idol. There's an American Idol marathon on cable TV and i'm hooked. It's constantly on my big beautiful plasma screen. Will have to take a break soon to visit the turtle that keeps eluding me. Yes, i know, i'm ridiculous....but it's my indulgence!

The sun tan
I'm going to have a very brown back from all the snorkelling. Had to curtail todays snork' though when a shark started following me. So it was lunch at the health restaurant and back to the room for champagne, DVD and the sunset....its so hard.

Picture this.......
It's sunset, there's champagne and a luxury cruiser. I'm getting on famously with the Maldivian skipper. We're all laughing and i'm so charming I make myself sick.
Then, I have to spoil it all
by saying something stupid, like
Tsu-na-mi!
travel tip: shut up and just keep drinking!
